Kolleen (Lytle)
Simpson Here is an update from Kolleen. Many of our classmates knew that my husband Mel had cancer. Well, he went home to be with the Lord in January 2006 after fighting cancer for 14 years, leaving me a widow at age 43. I just remarried and my husband, Mike Larson, is a graduate of the Mason class of 1971. Attached is the recent wedding announcement that was taken from the Mason community news. What's funny is my husband Mike's mom lived next door to us while I was in high school and yet Mike and I had never met. I knew his younger siblings, but did not know him. We were introduced by a mutual friend and 17 months later got married. We live in Charlotte.
After pressing Kolleen to provide me with more information about herself, I was happy to receive the following: After high school I got my license in cosmetology. In 1989 I went to college and got my associates with four certificates in various areas of the medical field. I owned my own business where I consulted physicians and had a temp service since 1989. I retired a couple of years ago and look forward to traveling with my new husband whose job sends him all over the world. I have two kids. A son who is 26, married and has his second baby due in a few weeks. He has a daughter who is two and she counts in Spanish to 10, English to 50, knows her ABC's and colors, and recognizes words. She can carry on the most amazing conversations with adults. Mike thinks she has the ability to communicate as well as any 10-year-old. I also have a daughter who is 22 and in college. She is dating a man who is in college to be a Dentist. I was a volunteer mounted division deputy for four years with Eaton County. My first night on duty at the fair turned into a break up of two gangs fighting over territory. Boy was that an exciting night. In April I had the privilege of working at Razors Edge across from Sav-a-lot. My friend Vonna owns it and she had hip surgery. Because I am retired, it allowed me to work for her while she was laid up recovering. I had such a wonderful time cutting hair of local men. I was amazed at how many people I knew and loved the adventures of every day as I would walk down memory lane with those who came in for their haircut. I cut the hair of many of the brothers and fathers and even sons of people we went to school with. We have Peruvian Paso horses. I am down to two, had five at one time. Worked on a project (volunteering) with MSU educating the horse judges on all of the gaited breeds after I had done a one year intense research. My kids both live away from home, so it is just Mike, myself, our two dogs and the two horses we have left. Mike and I keep in touch with his graduating class, they are a pretty tight bunch it seems. They play softball summer and fall on a Mason grad league for men 50 and older. They also go the the Fireman's St Patty's Dance together. He and Leon Clark have been best friends since they were six, I think.
Currently I volunteer at my church, the Lansing
